Your balance is what your workspace can spend, in dollars. Every call spends it at the provider’s price, no markup (Pricing). It holds two things: the funds you add, and the credits Datacircle gives you.

Credits

  • Signup: a $5 credit, permanent, once per workspace.
  • Temporary: from a campaign. The launch campaign gives a $20 credit, usable for 24 hours, to every workspace created since the campaign opened, on its first GET /balance/ or provider call in launch week (the 7 days after launch; the 24 hours start then; GET /files/ and /me/ calls don’t start them), while the launch budget of $1,000 lasts. It is listed in temporary_credits with its expires_at; whatever is left then is gone.
  • Manual: added to your workspace by Datacircle by hand (a refund, a gift, a deal), permanent.
Every field is explained in the API reference: Datacircle, Read the balance.

Spend order

Each call spends temporary credits first (soonest to expire), then the signup credit, then your funds and manual credits (oldest first). So credits never sit unused while you pay.

Adding funds

Add any whole number of dollars from $5 to $10,000 from your dashboard, or from the API: it returns a Stripe payment page to open or hand to a human.
The funds land in your balance as soon as Stripe confirms the payment, and never expire. A workspace that has added $50 in funds (in total) unlocks the co-op files (coop_up2data, coop_harvestapi), new every day, for the foreseeable future (see Files). Credits never count toward it.
